SDK Label
A core aspect of the Environment Agency's mandate is sustainable resource management.
To set an example, the Environment Agency has implemented the waste management scheme developed by SuperDrecksKëscht (SDK) and has held the SDK label since October 1, 2002.
EMAS registration and ISO 45001 certification
As part of its commitment to a safe and healthy work environment, the Administration has adopted an integrated approach to managing environmental, health, and workplace safety standards.
An integrated management system is currently being implemented, aligned with the following standards:
- Regulation (EC) No 1221/2009 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2009 on the voluntary participation by organisations in a Community eco-management and audit scheme (EMAS), repealing Regulation (EC) No 761/2001 and Commission Decisions 2001/681/EC and 2006/193/EC
- Standard ISO 45001:2018: Occupational health and safety management systems – Requirements with guidance for use
ISO 9001:2015 certification
The Environmental Monitoring and Assessment Unit – Measurement and Analysis Group (USEE-MA, Unité surveillance et évaluation de l’environnement –groupe mesurages et analyses), responsible for air quality monitoring in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, has held ISO 9001:2015 certification since 22 January 2021.
This certification encompasses the monitoring and assessment of air quality using reference methods for pollutants measured by the telemetric network, including SO2, NO, NO2, O3, and CO, as well as on the non-telemetric network, specifically particulate matter PM10 and PM2.5.
ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation
Since September 2024, the Environment Agency (AEV) has been accredited by the Organisme Luxembourgeois d'Accréditation et de Surveillance (OLAS) in accordance with ISO 17025 for measuring particulate matter concentrations (PM10 and PM2.5) in ambient air, as per Standard EN 12341:2014. This accreditation formally recognizes AEV’s technical and organizational competence in this field.
This initiative is part of an active quality strategy launched by the Authority several years ago, aimed at obtaining ISO 9001 certification in the field of air quality by 2021.
